Memory Loss
Memory loss that disrupts daily life, such as forgetting important dates, asking for the same information over and over, misplacing things or losing the ability to retrace steps, can be challenging for sufferers of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
At San Gabriel, we utilize visual cues throughout the day and in specific locations to assist our residents with the challenges of their memory loss. Memory tableaus are featured in shadow boxes at each resident’s apartment door, which help in identifying “home.” Consistent seating management and visual cues at mealtimes also help residents locate their “place.” These and other visual aids help keep our residents aware of time and place and can give them a feeling of familiarity and security.
